This course is designed to provide an introduction to the field of child development and psychology as well as an insight into the policies and practices of early childhood education providers. The course focuses on the early years (from birth to age 6) and utilizes resources produced at the state level (e.g First 5) and nationally (e.g MyPlate) including state regulations of child care facilities. You will engage with the content in a practical way by creating and demonstrating activities, lessons, storytelling, and other related tasks.

In this first semester, you will learn multiple and sometimes conflicting theories of child development. Then, you will examine how these theories apply to the various age groups and learn appropriate activities and behaviors that can promote development. You will explore the competencies and characteristics of a successful early childhood education program and early childhood educators.

The SmartFox Algebra 1 is designed to have a seamless, clear course flow while being rigorous enough for UC a-g approval. Our students love this course, and it's changed how they view algebra, and math in general!
